Using the Internet and other ICT helps to develop students’ ability to research, process and transmit information obtained. It also contributes to the interaction and exchange of information with people from other places, who possessing diverse linguistic models. Furthermore, it creates real, functional communicative situations that allow the students to take advantage of multimedia environments such as: chat, forum, image recording, on-line auditions, interactive tasks, etc.
Teachers can select the sources that fit the students’ needs according to their age, level and abilities (interactive book reading, games, vocabulary exercises, listening and reading activities, etc). In addition, students can access, select and interpret information. Another advantage is that students can collaborate and cooperate in groups, which works to improve their own self-esteem.
With reference to the use of blogs, it is obvious that they are a powerful tool for teachers and students. Using blogs allows students and teachers to work together. What is even more important is that students feel very motivated to work on blogs. Teachers can help students to coordinate group planning, resulting in the development of independent learning strategies in the study of vocabulary, presentations and writing reports.
